Abstract

The study of the essay in Arabic literature spans a long historical period. It is believed that essay writing began to emerge in the early Islamic eras, but the interest in studying the essay significantly increased around the year 1850 AD. Therefore, this article does not aim to review all forms of essay literature, but rather seeks to examine the origins and evolution of the literary essay in the Saudi Arabian literary arena, focusing on its role and impact in Saudi literature. The article will conclude by discussing the significance of the Saudi essay and its role in enriching the Saudi literary landscape.
